T LevelPreview DLC Evil Nun

On June 20, 2020, a collaboration between Glowstick Entertainment and Keplerians, the developers of the mobile horror game Evil Nun, was announced. The collaboration was for Glowstick Entertainment to create an Unreal Engine PC remake of the game (Evil Nun: The Broken Mask), and as a result, this game was also going to be added to Monsters & Mortals as one of the DLCs.

However, on April 22, 2022, Glowstick Entertainment announced that they were stepping away from the development of Evil Nun: The Broken Mask due to a large number of other obligations, and thus the Monsters & Mortals DLC was also cancelled. However, Vince confirmed that in the future this DLC could still happen, but when the game is already finished by its new developers.

Characters[]

Penny the Panda[]

Penny The Panda Concept Art

Like Lucky and his friends, Penny appears to look like a friendly normal suit having the appearance of an anthropomorphic panda bear with large eyes, wide smile, and having small sprinkles of blood on her suit. She wears both a pink polka-dotted bow on her head and a large pink tutu. She also has what looks like blood on her gloves, some dripping out of her mouth, and a bit on her body. She resembles Miu Miu from BabyBus, since Miu Miu and Penny are both pandas and Miu Miu and Penny both have pink bows on their heads.

In her frenzy mode, she has a single metallic red-eye in her left eye, and her normal eye is popping out of her right eye socket. While her sharp bloody teeth show detail, her body is the difference. Her skeleton legs are shown, as well as her lower torso, left eye, and the left side of her head. she also has the same polka dotted bow and pink tutu. She also still has blood coming out of her mouth and a bit on her glove.

Trivia

  • She and Penny the Chicken both share the same name. This is likely because Penny was supposed to be a panda, but changed into a chicken instead. Ironically, both have one of their eyes popping out.
    • The reason Penny's original design was scrapped was actually due to her chosen animal. Lucky and Hangry, a rabbit and pig respectively, were more common animals and Penny stood out more for not being one herself. They decided to make her a chicken so she fit in more with the rest of her team.
    • The name "Penny" could be a reference to one of the game's developers, Pen Livings.
  • Penny has a very robotic endoskeleton structure, while Lucky and his friends have more organic looking ones under their suits, best seen with Hangry's bottom jaw. However, both have red eyes in their frenzy modes. Penny the Panda is also much more damaged in her frenzy mode than the other 3.
  • Her design was repurposed for the Mama Bear.
  • She is inspired by many animatronic characters, from Showbiz, Terminator, and Chucky E Cheese.
  • She was most likely going to represent Automatonophobia, fear of animatronics/puppets/marionettes, or she may have represented Technophobia, the fear of technology, like the other animatronics. She may also represent Arkoudaphobia, fear of bears.
  • Vince confirmed in the sixth Q&A, that Penny the Chicken’s frenzy mode was her animatronic/Terminator form, this likely means that Penny’s animatronic/terminator form was her frenzy form.

Evil Vulture Guard[]

Evilvultre

The Evil Vulture Guard appears to be a bald, anthropomorphic vulture with claw-shaped wings seem to have a long sharp silver tip similar to a knife or a claw, and it has blood dripping over it. He wears a full set of clothing resembling a security guard. Complete with a police cap, badge, tie, belts, boots and all. He also appears to have some kind of a red Nazi-like armband (complete with what appears to be a skull or swastika) on his security guard uniform. He's also equipped with a baton, which would have probably been used to beat up the player with it. The Spider Pig would have been with it in attempting to kill the player. The Matron was going to be a prison guard alongside it and Spider Pig.

Symbolisms[]

The Evil Vulture Guard can be considered similar to most enemies in Dark Deception given how it was once a mortal. Most enemies in Dark Deception gained monstrous forms that reflect their greatest sin in life. In The Evil Vulture Guard's case (assuming that the man it once was lived a life of sin), its appearance may be considered fitting for police officers who abuses their power and authority for personal gain or excessive and unwarranted use of force against an individual or a group.

Trivia

  • Since the Evil Vulture Guard appears to be an anthropomorphic vulture wearing a security guard uniform, it's likely he represent Ornithophobia (the fear of birds, especially vultures) and Capiophobia (the fear of getting arrested).
  • The Evil Vulture Guard may be inspired by the Skeksis from the Jim Henson movie The Dark Crystal and the titular characters of both Maniac Cop and Psycho Cop film series.

Spider Pig[]

Spiderpig

In the A photo, his upper body is that of a pig, with large slit eyes, small bloody teeth, large arms covered in blood, what seems to be spikes protruding from his back of his spine, and a bulbous, somewhat grotesque body being hunched over. The Spider Pig wears a police cap on his head, a belt with multiple pockets, and a grey badge. His lower body consists of a six-legged spider body and pants. In the concept art, the Spider Pig holds a large piece of meat on a bone. It is unknown if this was either his weapon or just added there for detail.

In the B photo, he looks the same, but with smaller red eyes, floppier ears, lack of pockets on his belt, and stumpy handless arms with no blood on it.

In the C photo, his appearance resembles more of a bulldog. The teeth now circle around the largemouth, and his eyes are similar to his first look, but bigger with normal pupils. He also appears to be armless and possesses two spider/arachnid-like legs on both side of his torso to make up for his armless body.

Due to being scrapped, it is unknown how he would act in the game. Possibly, there would have been multiple of him, and the Evil Vulture Guard would have been with the Spider Pigs since they both wear security uniforms.

Trivia

  • It is confirmed that there was supposed to be a prison level according to the old Kickstarter page, in which him and the Evil Vulture Guard would appear in.
    • Though, this could be very unlikely given the fact that the The Matron was supposed to have the prison location as her level before it was later scrapped and was replaced by the Hospital in 2015-19 because she was originally was supposed to be prison security guard/warden in the earlier 2014 versions of Dark Deception during the development and it is that only when she was later become the hospital overseer in the mid-2015.
  • Going with the fact that nearly every single monster in Dark Deception were supposed to be representation of the twisted souls of sinners, the Evil Vulture Guards and the Spider Pig were likely represent the souls of corrupt law enforcement and politicians who abuse their power and authority.
  • Due to him being a pig mixed with a spider. He could represent Swinophobia (Fear of pigs) and Arachnophobia (Fear of spiders).
  • He may be a possible reference to Spider Pig from the Simpsons movie.

Roaches[]

The only thing known about the Roaches was their setting, their theme was actually going to take place more on a futuristic spaceship set somewhere in the depths of an outer space and have a Sci-Fi theme to it. Because of this, and their assumed large cockroach-like appearance, they may appear to be a somewhat alien-esque had they ever gotten a complete design.

Dolly[]

Dolly is a scrapped character for Dark Deception who was originally an enemy in an unknown level. Not much is known about Dolly, but she was supposed to be in Dark Deception. Not much is known about Dolly’s appearance, all we know about her appearance is that she's a doll.

Trivia

  • in the 6th Q&A, Vince revealed Dolly was an old character. When they recorded Carolyn Seymour for Bierce, a lot of the game was not fully designed yet. This happened around 2014, which was the same time they released the first demo. At that time, they only had a script, without any art or models. They needed to fill four hours of recording time with Carolyn, which was part of the union agreement with the voice actors. However, they didn't have four hours of material for her to record for Bierce. So, they threw in the end of the script, thinking that it would remain the same. They had her record for characters that they hadn't even designed yet, and Dolly was one of them. Many people have theorized that Dolly was initially meant to be Agatha's character before she became Agatha. However, Dolly was actually supposed to be a separate character, similar to Annabelle, who was meant to be a doll. Dolly was scrapped, and it never even made it off the script.
  • Some of the lines originally meant for Dolly were reused for Torment Therapy, one of them being Bierce saying that she "likes her shoes".

YandereDev[]

M&M YanDev Reveal

YandereDev was planned to be a character of Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals. Before the game was released, it was stated that it would be included in the Yandere Simulator DLC. Later, it was announced that it would not fit the game, the characters would be from the Yandere Simulator franchise, as seen here.

Traps[]

Banana Peels[]

Banana Peel

According to the game files, the banana peels from Monsters & Mortals were originally going to be added to the base game's "Monkey Business" level at some point during the development (possibly during the Enhanced Edition update), but got scrapped for unknown reasons. That being said, you can still spawn the scrapped banana peels into the game through Unreal Engine 4 commands. It can be seen through here.

Getting into contact with the banana peel will cause the player to immediately get stunned, making it currently the only trap in Dark Deception that can stun the player aside from enemies. However, it doesn't force the player to mash the "F" keyboard button as it only paralyze the player in one location temporarily for few seconds while the screen glows orange.

Levels[]

  • Prison Level (Not to be confused with Prison Panic)
  • Medieval Tower Level
  • Corporate Office Level
  • Outer Space Level

Triple Items[]

Players were able to get triple set of the same item at random from Portal Boxes and must use them 3 times before they can pick portal boxes again unless it gets destroyed by Hand of Fate.

After the Silent Hill update was released in Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals, the triple items have been completely removed due to balancing issues.

These are the lists of items that used to have Triple sets:

  • Speed Boost
  • Primal Fear
  • Banana Peel
  • Frenzy Mode

All of its icons have been archived through here.

Trivia

  • Sometime before the stats rework update, Mortals originally used to have the Triple Items. However, it became exclusive to Monsters only.
    • This also applies to other Monster's exclusive items like Primal Fear, Frenzy Mode, and Phantom Malak.

Music[]

  • Main Article: OST
Name Audio Notes
Drawn To Darkness Bendy_and_the_Ink_Machine_-_Drawn_to_Darkness_Dark_Deception_Version This soundtrack was made for a Dark Deception and Bendy And The Ink Machine crossover, however the crossover was later confirmed to be scrapped.

It is a remix of the track "Drawn To Darkness".

Crazy Carnevil - Zone 1 Normal Cutting_Room_-_Music_Vol._1_-_Dark_Deception_OST An early version of "Big Top Trouble", used for the same purpose.

The most noticeable change is the slower tempo with lower tones, which was likely changed in the final version to fit the zone better.

Crazy Carnevil Entrance As the name suggets, this track seems to have been intended for the entry area of the circus.

It was replaced with ambience in the final game, most likely to set a different mood.

Bearly Buried - Zone 2 Panic What seems to be an earlier rendition of "Uninvited Guest", using the same whispers included in it.

Unlike most of the other Bearly Buried tracks, this one seems to use more melodies instead of the more mixed ambient sounds the final versions have.

Deadly Decadence - Zone 1 Normal Another track that was replaced with ambience in the final version, very likely due to it being less distracting when listening for the Gold Watchers' movements.

Mimmicks classical orchestral music, with some more modern synths also included.

Bierce's Ballroom Earlier version of "Bierce's Ballroom".

This version seemingly shares no similarities with the final mix, instead opting for a more orchestral feel using harps and other instruments, rather than the choirs and brooding melodies of the final version featuring a much deeper tone.

Elementary Evil - Zone 1 Normal A playful, yet dramatic song featuring a xylophone, mirroring Agatha's corrupted child-like presence.

Replaced with "Last Day of School", likely for not instilling a sense of urgency like other zone tracks.

Dan's Original Pitch for Dark Deception Main Theme (2014) Cutting_Room_-_Music_Vol._2_-_Dark_Deception_OST-2 As the title suggets, this was Dan Dombrowsky's original pitch for the main theme of Dark Deception, thus making it the first song he composed for Dark Deception and it features a lot of his key traits, such as the choirs and orchestral instruments.

It was completely scrapped and redone for the final main theme, "Darkness is Coming".

Deadly Decadence Zone 2 Panic Track An earlier rendition of "Mind Your Manors", with the most noticeable change being the slightly deeper notes and the completely different choir used.
Stranger Sewers Panic Track Another early version, this time of "It's Time to Leave".

It uses the same melody, but progresses differently and has much more noticeable ambient sounds which are quieter in the final version, also lacks the higher pitched instrument heard throughout the final cut.

Bearly Buried Boss Fight Early version of "Maternal Instinct", (the Mama Bear boss) theme for Bearly Buried, completely different from all the currently available tracks.

Uses the usual instrumentation found in the other tracks, like the whispers, but features a much more drastic tone.

Mystery 1 As the name suggests, this track is a mystery.

It's completely different in tone than any of the other tracks in the game, with the closest to it's kind being "Shopping Therapy" from Monsters & Mortals.

Mystery 2 This is a song that the developers planned to release for fans at Christmas, but abandoned this idea due to the fact that Dan Dombrowsky could not compose a good enough version of the music.

It features a lot of bells, feeling a lot like a christmas song.

Theme Park Zone 1 Normal Cutting_Room_-_Music_Vol._3_-_Dark_Deception_OST-2 Earlier rendition of "Only the Joyful", using a music box like the final version but lacking the "Joy Joy Ditty" leitmotif. The ambient sound also seems to be mostly unchanged.
Theme Park Zone 2 Normal "Feeling Lucky?"'s early version.

Most noticeable change, besides the main melody, is the use of a music box and a prominent choir, changed to focus more on an industrial feel in the final version.

Theme Park Zome 3 Panic Perhaps an early version of "Luck Runs Out", intended for Zone 3.

Similar in tone, but lacking things like the choir and some of the mechanical clanking.

Theme Park Closing Time (Alternate) An alternative version of "Closing Time".

The announcer's voice is left unedited and it is shorter, featuring less progression and urgency added.

Bearly Buried Zone 1 Normal Another version of "Trigger Teddy Picnic", with the most prominent change being the lack of Dan's vocals in the final version.

The pitch-shifting was also removed, making the final version more standard.

Malak's Lair The first track revealed for Chapter 5, indicating that Malak may have had or will have a lair at one point.

It's very different in tone to other music featured in the game, choosing to follow a more action-like feel with percussion and even guitars included.

Loser Screen Alternate 01 Cutting_Room_-_Music_Vol._1_-_Monsters_&_Mortals_OST-2 A light-hearted rendition of the main theme, "Ascension".

Uses a lot of silly noises and instruments like kazoos for a more comical effect.

Loser Screen Alternate 02
(Rage Quitter Anthem)
Another rendition of the main theme, this time going for a more mocking tone.

Seems to have been done in acappella and uses a vocal track of a baby crying, further adding to the humilliation.

This theme might be added back, being used for whenever someone quits a match on purpose, as suggested by the subtitle.

Winner Screen Alternate 01 A track with an epic tone in mind, adding to the feeling of a victory.

The closest version to the final cut used in the game.

Winner Screen Alternate 02 A groovier, disco inspired version of "Ascension", following a more light-hearted winning mood.
Fun Girl Dark_Deception-_Monsters_&_Mortals_-_Fun_Girl_-_Yandere_Simulator_DLC This track was supposed to play during the Fun Girls boss time in "Akademi Assault", however it was replaced by another version.

It is a remixed version of both the Snap Mode theme and Delinquent theme of the original Yandere Simulator. It starts off with many beats and bells, followed by the choir. It then changes to a groovy-like tone in the later part.

"Dolly never gets tired of killing you, and I never get tired of watching it."
"Dolly loves you... Dolly loves you...to death."
"Big and grotesque, but I do like her shoes."

Scrapped[]

Voicelines that used to be in the game but were removed in later versions for various reasons.

Voicelines Was used Audio File
"The ring piece. Place it at the altar, now!" After completing "Monkey Business" which replaces "altar" with "table".
"You're trying my patience!" Upon dying to Malak.
"Idiot! Do not fail me again!"
"A flashing red button? Might as well push it. Maybe the second time is the charm." Bierce used to say this when the player is about to press the button on the fuse box in "Mascot Mayhem". Was removed because Lucky's voiceline was overlapping it.
