Robbie the Rabbit is a monster from the Silent Hill franchise by Konami. It was released as a playable monster for the Silent Hill DLC pack of Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals, which also features a Nurse, Cybil Bennett, Heather Mason, and the level "Silent Sacrifice", which takes place in the town of Silent Hill itself.
Description[]
Robbie is a rabbit costume with pink fur, brown eyes, a white, blood-soaked mouth, brown overalls, a blue bowtie, and white ears. While the mascot is big enough to fit a human inside of it, the type of entity wearing the costume is unknown.
In this game, unlike his incarnation from Silent Hill 3, his bowtie is blue instead of green by default, and his face and overalls are not as bloody. Additionally, although Robbie has been shown wielding throwing axes, chainsaws, and shotguns, he is armed in Monsters & Mortals with a more modest rusty, bent metal pipe, like Heather Mason.
Personality[]
Not much could be gleaned from Robbie's guest appearance in Monsters & Mortals, or even from the Silent Hill series, since he is mostly an inanimate figure that makes sporadic appearances. Based on the one time the mascot was an actual enemy in the series, Silent Hill: The Arcade, the creatures inhabiting the Robbie costumes are clearly psychotic and murderous, laughing and screeching in a high-pitched voice as they chase and assault those they encounter with throwing axes, chainsaws, and shotguns. Just like in that game, Robbie makes the same demonic sounds when hit or killed in Monsters & Mortals, indicating that those in the suits are no longer humans (assuming they were humans to begin with).
Abilities[]
As a monster of the Balanced class, Robbie has average speed, 240 hit points, and can deal either 30 or 60 damage with strikes from his rusty metal pipe.
His ultimate ability, "Rabbit Rampage", spawns three clones that will appear near him to follow them for one minute, disappearing afterwards until the ability is used again. When the player hits an enemy (whether they take damage or not), the victim will be marked for all three clones to pursue and attack, dealing 15 damage with every swing of their metal pipes. When the target is killed, they will follow the player again until there is a new target for them. The Robbie clones can be killed with either four light attacks or two heavy attacks like the clones of a Clown Gremlin.
Tactics[]
Against Robbie the Rabbit[]
- If faced with Robbie while accompanied by his clones (which are indistinguishable from him), one should avoid being hit by them, as a strike from the real Robbie will prompt the others to focus on the player. Primal Fear can be used to prevent Robbie from reaching his target and marking them for his clones to beat up.
- Robbie can also be discouraged from attacking players with invincibility, Glowstick Vince's ultimate ability, "You'll See!" (this is extremely dangerous for Robbie since every hit dealt by the clones to Vince will be returned to Robbie, who cannot simply get his clones to stop unless he hits another player), or Senpai's ultimate ability, "Simp for Senpai!" (which renders Robbie completely unable from doing his normal attacks for ten seconds, which shows a weakness Robbie shares with Clown Gremlins; he and his clones are strong together, but individually, they are all still limited to basic attacks rather than special attacks that do high damage like other monsters).
- Skilled Speed class characters or characters with ultimate abilities that inflict damage at a rapid rate (like the Gold Watcher's "Golden Demise" or Malak's "Eye of Suffering") can quickly decimate both Robbie and his clones.
- Alternatively, one can rely on ultimate abilities that affect multiple enemies in an area or in the path of the attack all at once or in quick succession (like Hangry's "Rib Crusher" or Infected Balathu's "Flaming Spear").
As Robbie the Rabbit[]
- If intent on finishing off one enemy using Rabbit Rampage, Robbie should not attack any other opponent except for the one he originally struck until either the target is dead, all his clones are eliminated, or there is another, more important foe to gang up on.
- It is recommended for Robbie to keep an eye on his clones constantly in order to ensure whether they are attacking the intended target, keep track of how many are still alive, and gauge which of them are the most likely to be damaged or destroyed in a given situation (for example, if they are beating up a difficult target or are in the path of an incoming threat, like other players, traps, or bosses).
- Rabbit Rampage is best used on certain players, like Power class characters, stunned characters, those confused by Soul Corruption (which reverses a player's controls for five seconds), or those weakened by fear inflicted by another monster.
- Rabbit Rampage can also be used to distract a target or force them to retreat if they do not feel like taking on the rabbits. This could lead to the target being corralled or forced against another hazard, like another player, a trap, or a boss.
Themes[]
- This is for the monster character. For the themes of the town of Silent Hill itself, see Silent Sacrifice.
Symbolism[]
Despite being one of the more well-known creatures of Silent Hill, Robbie the Rabbit only makes one hostile appearance in the series as a horde-type enemy in Silent Hill: The Arcade. For the most part, he only appears as an unnatural part of particular scenes and places, as a toy, as part of a puzzle, or as an Easter egg in recurring cameos. His role is less about being an actual constant threat and more about simply providing an air of unease, given how his mostly-innocent appearance and bright colors contrast with the dark, decaying, and rusty world of Silent Hill.
Inspirations and Parallels[]
It is unknown whether the entity wearing Robbie is alive, dead, undead, or even human to begin with (that is, if there is any actual body inside the costume at all), given how Robbie vocalizes with high-pitched inhuman screeches and inhuman psychotic laughter. Assuming that the mascot is worn by something that is or was human at some point, Robbie can be considered similar to most of the creatures in Dark Deception, mortals who eventually became monsters that reflect their greatest sin in life. In this case (again, assuming that Robbie is worn by a human), the wearer being forever sealed within the bloodied costume can indicate that the person within Robbie is a murderer (proven by the several Robbies that tried to assault the player in Silent Hill: The Arcade) and a liar that deceives others by pretending to be something innocent and unassuming, like the Dread Duckies and the Doom Ducky.
Whether inspired by it or not, Robbie the Rabbit reflects the Bunny Man urban legend of 1970, which is centered around a mysterious man wearing a rabbit costume, threatening and attacking those he meets with an axe just like the ones that Robbie throws in Silent Hill: The Arcade. Since then, several figures in popular culture followed a similar theme, among them, "Frank" of Donnie Darko, "Bonnie" of the Five Nights at Freddy's series and his variants (most especially Springtrap, who contains the murderer William Afton, the main antagonist of the original series), "Mr. Hopp" of the Mr. Hopp's Playhouse series, and Dark Deception's own "Lucky the Rabbit".
Phobias[]
As with most monsters in Dark Deception, Robbie the Rabbit likely represents various phobias.
Phobia | Relevance |

Demophobia Fear of Unruly Mobs |
Like Lucky, Robbie is an anthropomorphic, innocent-looking rabbit mascot that is actually a psychopathic killer. Both also attack in mobs, with Lucky relying on his clones in Mascot Mayhem, and several copies of Robbie assaulting the player with throwing axes, chainsaws, and shotguns in the Lakeside Amusement Park portion of Silent Hill: The Arcade (with this being referenced by how he clones himself with his ultimate ability in Monsters & Mortals, Rabbit Rampage). However, unlike Lucky, who is an animatronic, Robbie appears to be more organic in nature, as he bleeds when attacked and killed in the arcade game, which may explain the blood spattered on his mouth. Several of them are killed in the arcade game, which could be the reason why so many of them are seen slumped over as if they are dead in Silent Hill 3 (which takes place after the arcade game), hence, Robbie is a macabre sight in that he is a costume containing a literal corpse. |

Masklophobia Fear of Masks, Costumes, and Mascots
Necrophobia Fear of the Dead and anything associated with Death
Zoophobia Fear of Animals |
