Puppet King is the ninth boss enemy in Dark Deception, making his first appearance in Chapter 5 in "Holiday Horror". He shares the level with the Red Stalkers.
Appearance[]
The Puppet King resembles a humanoid, posable mannequin, wearing a cracked white mask and a black hood that extends from the top of his head down to an armor plate made of masks on his upper body, each with a distinct expression. The hood drapes over his shoulders and cascades down his back, forming a cape. Like most of his Mannequins, his head is sharp and pointed, resembling a spike. Beneath the armor and hood, he wears a dark blue short-sleeved shirt with black cuffs, a belt around his waist, and what appear to be black pants and shoes.
Personality[]
In the Super Dark Deception Steam trading cards, it is said that his hobbies include puppetry, brooding, war, and shopping, with brooding likely referring to his unhappiness about being crownless. He is also described as ambitious and intelligent, traits that most likely stem from his desire to one day become an elite demon like Malak himself. Additionally, in the now-private Tokyo Gameshow Livestream Q&A, Vince described him as charismatic and "someone that commands attention in a room." He also said that his personality would be harder to identify early in the level, with events later in the level likely revealing more of his character, as confirmed in the 27th Q&A.
Besides his position in Malak's army, there are other things Puppet King dislikes such as unworthy peasants, defeat, and defiant mortals. Fortunately, he has ways of coping with these issues through his hobbies and favorite music: symphonies.
Abilities[]
Puppeteering[]
Puppet King has the ability to easily control other demons and mortals with his puppet strings. It is unknown to what extent he can control them, but he is highly capable of doing so. There is a possibility that this could be one of the many mechanics he uses in his level; however, this remains unconfirmed.
Behavior[]
In the 26th Q&A, Vince said Puppet King had more motion than other characters when asked if he could fly. This answer was left vague. In the 28th Q&A, it was confirmed that the Puppet King can summon Mannequins.
