Dark Deception (2014-2015 versions) are unfinished versions of Dark Deception, developed by Glowstick Games.
Official summary[]
You play as a cop on the run, fleeing from deeds you thought long buried. In desperation, you turn to the urban legend of Helen Bierce, famous actress who vanished in 1930. Dark and disturbing rumors surrounded her disappearance at the time. Out of options and backed into a corner, your only chance is to dive headfirst into evil and hope to survive.
Game's background[]
Demo version[]
The first demo of the game was released on March 14th, 2014, and was developed using the Unity engine. It featured two levels: Hotel, which was available for free as the introductory stage, and School, which could be purchased on GameJolt. Only a few players were able to experience the School level before it was removed due to its near-impossible difficulty. One of those players, Kira Komrad, managed to record a playthrough of the level. The (most likely) Sewer level was also in development and was briefly showcased in a single screenshot; however, it appears to have been left completely unfinished.
Alpha version[]
The alpha version of the new game was released on January 16th, 2015. In this version, the player begins in Bierce's Ballroom, which serves as a hub area allowing access to each portal, rather than starting directly from the title screen. The Hotel level features a lobby and an elevator as the entrance before the maze. This level is significantly longer and includes randomization elements to ensure that players do not know what to expect each time they enter. Additionally, the player now has an arm and a tablet that tracks the location of each soul shard. The newer School level was also revealed in several screenshots. It appeared to be very similar to the version seen in the game today; however, this particular version was unfortunately never included in any release of the 2015 Alpha.
A trailer was posted on the Kickstarter page, which said that the complete game had been scheduled to be finished around April 2015. However, two major problems occurred, which caused the game to not be completed. The first problem was the fact that the programmer of the company, Mark Henderson, had decided that he didn't want to make games anymore, resulting in him leaving the team. The second reason was not enough money being collected for the game's finished project.

Trivia[]
- Vince Livings confirmed that Dark Deception's gameplay is inspired by the 1980 arcade game, Pac-Man.
- Originally, Bierce's voice was only heard as she was set to fully appear near the end of game after all the ring pieces (or puzzle pieces) were collected, this is stated by her original Kickstarter's description.
- The inspiration for the Chef Monkeys as bosses originates from their kitchen counterparts in the Alpha version. Furthermore, in 2015, they were referred to as Monkey Chefs despite having the same designs as basic monkeys.
- Although she does not appear in the Alpha version, a fully developed 2015 model of Agatha can be found within the game's files. This version includes her voice lines, animations, and AI, which were copied from the Demo build, though her textures were missing. Additionally, some files related to the third level were also present.
- The 2014 School Demo had been considered lost media for a very long time (9 years). The only content showing level's gameplay was Kira Komrad's video posted in 2014, and Vince repeatedly said that this build was completely lost. However, on August 20th, 2023, Vince managed to find the 2014 School build on his old hard drive and released it to the public.
